Many people in South Africa have what we call a 4C type curl definition, which is the most delicate and driest hair texture, and is also extremely curly, making it very hard for the hair shaft to retain moisture. Due to this, people are more susceptible to relaxers and to shy away from keeping their hair natural. We have come across a remedy for this, it is called the L.O.C method. L.O.C is an abbreviation for leave in conditioner (liquid), oil and cream. The name itself signifies the products to be applied as well as the order in which to apply them, making it an easy-to-remember routine. What sets the L.O.C method apart from other methods is the layering of products in a specific order to maximize moisture retention. The layer of moisture is effectively sealed in by two products which are both known to be excellent sealants: oil and butter. Both oil and butter are praised for their ability to create a layer along the hair shaft that helps to prevent water from being evaporated from it and lost to the atmosphere thus helping the hair to stay moisturized for longer. By using oil then a thicker heavier butter on top, you are ensuring that as much moisture as possible remains on the hair shaft which is beneficial for curlies who struggle to maintain moisturized hair.

The L.O.C methods works in the following steps:

Step 1: Leave-in conditioning spray (liquid)

Water is the key ingredient here. The hair needs to be wet in order to retain moisture. The Spray is the first step in the hair routine and can be applied to wet or dry hair. It is a water based leave in conditioner and contains moisturising oils and Glycerine.

Step 2: Oil

Oil acts as a sealant and helps the hair fibre to retain moisture and also adds to the hair’s softness and shine. Our oil is a blend of moisturising natural bases and essential oils that promote healthy scalp, also helping to prevent hair breakage and split ends.

Step 3: Cream

The cream is used to seal in the water and the oil. It has hydrophobic characteristics that inhibit the penetration of water from the surrounding air and environment, and binds to the natural protein structure of the hair. This helps the hair retain its natural moisture content and reinforces the hair fibre, making it stronger. This is the last step because it is highly concentrated, a little bit goes along way.
